I am very passionate about food and wine, among other things... So, celebrating one year of being in love - xXx - my boyfriend, Rick, took me to the Thomas Maxwell Bistro, where neither of us have been.
From the moment when we parked outside I already loved the restaurant and just knew that we would have a great evening!
The restaurant is on a little street corner in Parkmore, Johannesburg, and not in a shopping centre like most other restaurants in Gauteng. There are three different rooms, each with slightly different decor and atmosphere.
The menu offers only a small variety of dishes, such as Warthog Carpaccio with red onion chutney, finger-licking half-shell Mussels with super thin french fries (I can recommend this to everyone and anyone that is not allergic to shellfish) and tasty Fillet medallion on truffle cream, topped with foiegras and thyme butter crust...(view full menu here)
All dishes are beautifully prepared and presented, most of which come with the choice of ordering it as a starter or main portion. I decided to have two starters and dessert (of course!), Yum!
They have an extensive wine list, including some special French wine (if you can afford). They also have a Whiskey and Cognac menu that's generally well priced...
As a special touch, they bring you the yummiest cupcake stand filled with fairy cupcakes to enjoy when asking for the bill. This earns extra brownie points in my book! x
So if you're ever in the in search of a good wine & dine experience in Johannesburg, make sure to book well in advance and enjoy a great night out!
